About us

Welcome to the website about MBT shoes. MBT is an abbreviation for Masai Barefoot Technology, a company created by a Swiss entrepreneur Karl Muller. On this website, you will find more information about the Masai people, barefoot walking and running.

The reason why Muller called his company after the people was because he was inspired by the fact that they usually walk barefoot on soft terrains. Muller discovered that as a result of their barefoot walking, the Masai people have fewer problems with their backs and issues. At the same time, more and more people in the Western countries have been switching to lifestyles that were almost completely sedentary because most of the jobs at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century include sitting on a chair and working on a computer.

Muller had an idea of creating a shoe that is based on barefoot walking principles because as a result of barefoot walking the Masai people had less back and joint issues. The shoe that Muller created has a sole with several layers and a rounded heel, which makes the shoe look really different from all other shoes on the market.

Muller has revolutionized the footwear industry and patented his des of rocker bottom shoes.

Muller founded Masai Barefoot Technology in 1996. In a very short span of time, he was able to grow his sales to 4 million pairs worldwide. He sold his company in September of 2006 and started a new venture, a health and fitness concept called kybun.
